We'll try to keep things light on the rules, but there are a few guidelines we'd like everyone to follow to keep everything organized.
- Hiraeth uses an account-per-character ruleset. For each character you make, you'll need a unique account. You can also have an overall OOC account if you want, although that's not required.
- First things first, please introduce yourself here. We want to give you a warm welcome and get to know you. After introducing yourself as well, we can set your account to an OOC account, if you want to have one.
- After creating a character account, please use this guide to fill out a character sheet and make a post when you're done here. Staff will make the account a character account an accept your character sheet, which will then allow you to start posting in roleplay. Join or create a thread in the Mysterious House locus once you've been accepted.
- Overpowered characters are not allowed. A good starting point for abilities and powers is no more than three. It is possible for your characters to gain more abilities with staff permission, and sometimes staff will feel it appropriate that your character gains an ability and initiate a discussion with you. There is a banned list of powers which can be found here.
- Canon characters from pre-existing works are tentatively allowed. Face claims are also allowed, as only a small selection of roleplayers are also artists. Artwork requires credit given to the original artist if not created by yourself. Staff will modify this rule as deemed fit. Remember: you don't need art, you can use description.
- Please abide by Proboards ToS. This means no explicit material and no gruesome descriptions of violence and injuries. Unfortunately, as long as we're a free site on proboards, we have to limit what content we can cover. However, violence and the implication of sex (ie: fade to black) are allowed. On Hiraeth, maturity level is more important than age.
- No god-moding. Please do not write your character as doing something to anyone else unless it has been previously discussed between players. You may attempt and give them a chance to respond and decide whether or not you succeed or fail. Example: Alice grabbed Bob and hauled him into the next room, slamming the door. vs Alice grabbed for Bob's hand, intending to haul him into the next room and slam the door.
- No meta-gaming. Your character does not automatically know what you know. It's just no fun for anyone if a character behaves like they're omniscient.
- You may feel free to politely discuss things with staff and present arguments in a mature fashion, but there will be no rules lawyering. No one is getting away with anything by claiming the rules were unclear. If staff make a ruling to keep things going smoothly, follow it whether it was in the rules or not.
- The shoutbox is guest-friendly. Please keep all topics appropriate. Guests are free to ask questions and introduce themselves.
- Just don't be a dick. We're all probably adults and by this point know how to interact with other people responsibly. Leave your baggage at the door. Failure to resolve disagreements in a mature fashion will result in being eaten by the staff. Bigotry will also get you eaten. Don't do it.
