For long time role-players who have a lot of experience in group settings, there's etiquette most people follow that may not end up in the rules. Some of this stuff is innate after years and years; some of it is simply an 'unwritten rule' that most people don't think about. Hopefully, this little primer will help you understand some basic etiquette. Failing to follow a rule of etiquette is not the same as breaking a rule. However, your time - and everyone else's time, for that matter - roleplaying here will be happier and easier if you follow these tips.
- Take turns when posting. Poster A goes, then B, then C, then A again. Try not to skip people. If a thread is supposed to be used by three people, don't turn it into a two-way conversation. That's just rude.
- We have the 'Style Tag' and 'Spoiler Tags' available in terms of plugins. This opens posting tables to have a lot of variety with them. However, 'Style Tag' also introduces the [googlefont] tag. Don't go crazy in adding a bunch of google fonts to your posts. It causes a sharp increase in load time if you have more than one or two, and quite frankly you never need more than two AT MOST for a posting table (one for titling, one for normal text). Having one works just as well as two, if you code things right and make liberal use of font sizes. Or if you use one of the default fonts with proboards. Also, if your posting table is too fancy, mobile users will not be able to read your posts. Be considerate of others when making your posting tables.
- Ask before joining a thread. Some threads will be labelled 'open' (usually between square brackets or parentheses), and you're free to join that thread whenever. HOWEVER, if you notice the thread already has been replied to by someone, ask before joining. It may be the original poster didn't care who responded, but they (or the respondent(s)) don't want anyone new joining in. Just be respectful of people's threads.
